Invitation to Attend

Hello and welcome,

You are warmly invited to attend the 19th Australasian Research Management Society Conference 2018, to be held in Hobart, Tasmania.

The theme for the 2018 conference, Research Futures: Thinking long term in a world of short attention spans, aims to build discussion across all areas of research administration and management on how best to position and support research for future global and local needs, what infrastructure is needed to invest in now for the future, and how to ensure research creates an impact.

We are busy building an exciting program for you, including plenary and keynote addresses that outline the higher-level strategies at play, both institutionally and internationally. These addresses will be supported by oral and poster presentations from delegates, industry exhibitions, and ARMS accreditation modules. Do you have a great story or idea to share? Then submit an abstract for a presentation, poster or workshop so that all members of our great profession can benefit.

In addition to the conference, the ARMS 2018 committee will be offering optional add-ons: Hobart and surrounds site visits on Monday, professional development workshops including ARMS accreditation modules and meetings on Tuesday, and collaboration meetings and social/networking events throughout the week. Further details about these networking, professional development and social events will be released as the details are finalised over the coming months. Keep checking the ARMS 2018 website regularly for updates.

The venue for the conference will be the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart, on the doorstep of the beautiful and world-renowned Constitution Dock. The Hotel Grand Chancellor is just a short walk from Salamanca Place, where the famous Salamanca Markets have been held every Saturday for the past 43 years. You can also take a ferry ride from Constitution Dock to MONA (Museum of Old and New Art). Or hire a car and drive up Mount Wellington; be careful though, it can still snow up there at any time of the year.

The Tasmanian Chapter of the Australasian Research Management Society is excited to host the conference and we hope you can join us for a thought-provoking and stimulating ARMS 2018 conference in Hobart from 18-21 September 2018. We warmly welcome all suggestions on how we can make this the best conference for you. If you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us (, 03 6226 7479 or
